More Babble

His latest film “Superniova” reaffirms that Stanley Tucci is one of the very best actors around.

Word has it that Republican congressional members displayed emotion after seeing the footage of Vice President Pence, Sen. Romney and others being hustled from the Congressional chambers for their safety as the mob invaded the Capitol Building on January 6th. . However, that stark footage didn’t seem to change their support for the ex-White House resident. How pathetic that Trump and party loyalty can eclipse what is morally correct.

Look up the word sham and you’ll see pictures of Ted Cruz and Lindsay Graham.

Notable quote:” Donald Trump “won’t live down his disgraceful conduct,” the Wall Street Journal declared. It further stated ‘his legacy will be “forever stained by the Capitol violence of January 6th.

Since hearing the news that Bloom, the new G.M. has traded a favorite Red Sox, Andrew Benintendi,  for a few obscure players, my enthusiasm for the team and its 2021 fortunes is definitely under control if not totally absent. Bad move. Their only good gesture thus far is the re-hiring of Alex Cora as manager.

If we were to reason that because more people are remaining home these days tv quality viewing has increased we would be wrong. Knowing little new material can be produced because of the pandemic restrictions still we might imagine the webs and the independents could come up with more interesting fare than they do. .Pass the crosswords.

The Houston Chronicle  called on the redoubtable Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) to resign after leaving his storm ravaged state to fly to Cancun for a brief stay. The paper described Cruz’s vacation during a Texas weather crisis as “foolish, callous and sadly telling of his approach to the job over the past eight years”. Word has it he didn’t fly solo. His inflated ego was in the next seat..

Say What?

A pair of items to “gladden” our hearts, Trump during his waning days in office claiming more than 100 times that the Democrats had “rigged” or “stolen” the election according to the Huffington Post and also news that Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner had greatly profited from their years at the White House. Seems they raked in from $172 million and $640 million in outside income from business interests during their four year in the Trump administration,

In a terse letter, thankfully there are no more Trump tweets, he’s resigned from both SAG, Screen Actors Guild, and AFTRA, American Federation of Television Radio Artists. The Unions’ rather enthusiastic “thank you” indicated they had been considering giving him the heave ho.

This disclaimer leads off all of Giuliani’s radio shows, “The views expressed by Donald Trump’s personal attorney and guests and callers of his program do not represent the beliefs and opinions or policies of WABC Radio”.  Maybe Rudy Ka-Zudy should head for Mar a Lago and become the Trump personal caddy.

Bad news for us readers of the Providence journal’s Bill Reynolds, he’s retiring. His column was always the priority when I opened the pages. His insight and wit were unmatched. Sorely missed he will be. All the best, Bill.

By the way, a recent Pro Jo issue displayed a section that featured seven full pages of car ads as opposed to five pages of news. Ah yes, a sign of the times.

Now from the unusual to the absurd.... Fox’ Laura Ingraham now claiming the real insurrection wasn’t the actual one carried out by pro-Donald Trump extremists during the violance performed on the U.S. Capitol.  Rather she pointed to President Joe Biden, Seth Rogen and Steve Carell, immigrants and Black Lives Matter extremists. Always interesting to check on the Ingraham World and see if it’s maintaining its ridiculousness. The answer is in the affirmative.

While on the subject of those in addition to Ingraham who offend me, here’s a pair, Sarah Palin and Piers Morgan. Seems she was recently on his Good Morning Britain show claiming she didn’t accept President Joe Biden’s election. She needs to return to her native Alaska where the cold can continue to keep her brain frozen. .

R.U Kidding?

A pair of giants have left us.  Cloris Leachman at 94  who won eight Emmy Awards on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “Phyllis,” “Malcolm in the Middle,” “Raising Hope,” and in the movies “Young Frankenstein,” “Prancer,” “The Beverly Hillbillies,” Her role in “The Last Picture Show” brought her an Oscar. Truly a gem.

Literally a physical giant, standing at  7ft 5in on his hind legs, Freddy the Great Dane was the world’s tallest dog .From Essex, England, he just died at the age of 8 1/2 years old,. Freddy was measured for the Guinness World Records in 2016 and crowned the world’s tallest living dog.

Quote of the week from the now Trump unshackled Dr. Anthony Fauci, ““It’s really tough to get into his head, but I think what was going on with him is he was not interested in the outbreak,” He described Trump as a “pretty macho guy” who considered the pandemic an “inconvenient truth that he didn’t accept as a truth” and thought wearing face masks was a sign of weakness — a belief that many Americans unfortunately took on[C1]  as well”.

Surrounded by snow and sub-freezing temps, I’m reminded emphatically once again why I detest winter .The white stuff only appears attractive on The Weather Channel.

Ho hum, here we go again, another day devoted to the non-doings of Punxatawney Phil, the infamous rodent ground hog, who, as usual, did not discover his shadow and claimed there will be six more weeks of winter

The Red Sox great 2nd baseman Dustin Pedroia has announced his inevitable retirement since suffering a severe knee injury which has kept him on the bench for past couple of seasons. Bet he’d make a fine coach or manager one day.

Yet another retirement....the Trump helipad at his Mar a Lago resort. The area doesn’t usually allow heliports but because of the office he held an exception was made. Now that he’s been booted from the Oval Office, get lost chopper landing.

Doings

Congrats to our new President! May he be successful in the hopes he expressed in his acceptance speech. This is a time for optimism and an escape from the negativity of the past four years.

Seems Rep. Andy Harris of Maryland attempted to enter Congress packing a gun.  Another “bright bulb” elected by the people Good grief!

Ah, news of the “fabled” Rudy Giuliani: A group of barristers has filed an ethics complaint against the former Trump lawyer calling on the state of New York to suspend his law license relating to his efforts to subvert the 2020 election and circulate lies from Trump causing extensive voter fraud

How good it was seeing Dr. Anthony Fauci  return,  not being censored and silenced by the previous administration. His knowledge and candor are gratefully needed by all of us.

The chaos left by the red tied one is seen on Time’s latest cover showing President Biden looking out a trashed Oval Office window, surrounded by flames .Graffiti is scrawled on a curtain and the Presidential Desk is buried under documents and fast food cartons. A telephone lies on the floor, near one of Trump’s signature red “Make America Great Again” caps along with a bullhorn. Well done, Time.

Yet more news of the “legendary”  Rudy Giuliani now being sued for $1.3 billon. Dominion Voting Systems has filed a lawsuit alleging Giuliani defamed them with constant lies about election fraud. Just where is the former N.Y. mayor these days? Perhaps hanging out at Mir a Lago as a caddy for old orange face.

The Washington Post says Trump made 30,573 false or misleading claims during his four years in office. Seems nearly half that total during his final year. Glenn Kessler’s column claims the red tied office holder went from six false claims a day during his initial year to 39 a day during his final 12 months in the Oval Office.

Two members of the Biden family just arrived at their new home, The White House, this past weekend. Champ and Major, a pair of German Shepherds seemingly have adapted well to their new digs. No surprise that the former chief exec was the first not to have a pet there in over a hundred years. Champ is 10, Major 3 and the first adopted shelter dog to take up residence there-

You Don't Say

Notable quote from so called “First Lady, Melania,  following hubby’s inspiring the riot and attack on the Capitol Building, “I find it shameful that surrounding these tragic events there has been salacious gossip, unwarranted personal attacks, and false misleading accusations on me ― from people who are looking to be relevant and have an agenda”. Which of the orange faced one’s scribes wrote that for this mainly absent wife of the again impeachable West Wing resident. Do we wonder if a huge dollar divorce will follow Trump’s exiting the office he never should have occupied.

These “bright lights” refused to wear masks during the unforgiveable Capitol riot while sequestered with dozens of their fellow law makers. Their refusal to don same was accompanied by a mocking of the wearing of the protective gear by others. There should be an appropriate punishment for each of these bozos: Andy Biggs (Ariz.), Mo Brooks (Ala.), Michael Cloud (Texas),Matt Gaetz (Fla.),Paul Gosar (Ariz.),Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.),oug LaMalfa (Calif.),Markwayne Mullin (Okla.),Scott Perry (Pa.)

Cheers for Patriots’ Head Coach Bill Belichick who refused the Oval Officer presentation of the Presidential Medal Of Freedom.

In our widest we never could have imagined a U.S. chief exec inspired mob killing a Capitol police officer. Even an additional four other people died. Pipe bombs were found in the Democratic and Republican Party headquarters. They wrote “Murder the media,” and yelled “Hang Mike Pence”. They shamelessly destroyed a commemorative honoring the late Civil rights hero Rep.John Lewis They brought flex cuffs, semiautomatic rifles, pistols, Molotov cocktails, homemade napalm and, pepper spray. They even erected a gallows. All shamelessly perpetuated by numerous U.S. and “Trump” flag wavers who bear absolutely no resemblance to our history’s heroes who made it possible for the creation and perpetuation of The Stars And Stripes.

Word has it that a growing rift has been exhibited by Trump in relation to his attorney and longtime pal, Rudy Giuliani. Seems the White House resident has refused to pay Rudy’s hefty legal fees. Nope, you just can’t make this stuff up.

Seems a group of Republican Congress members are outraged that they are now required to pass through metal detectors before entering the hallowed halls, halls which just days ago were crammed with armed Trump rioters bent on destroying property and causing bodily harm. These spoiled, overpaid and excessively benefitted ying yangs need to take a huge dose of reality and be made to grasp the fact that they are there to serve and not to rule.
